The New York Rangers will attend the funeral of veteran forward Martin St. Louis' mother on Sunday in Montreal as an entire team, coach Alain Vigneault revealed Thursday afternoon.
St. Louis and his family had originally planned to hold the funeral on Saturday, but have since moved the service to Sunday so as not to conflict with the Rangers' Eastern Conference finals-opening game against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday afternoon.
Vigneault indicated that once the schedule for the series was released, they spoke with the league in an attempt to get that changed but that St. Louis' family ultimately rearranged their plans instead.
"So Sunday, as a team we'l be able to attend his mother's funeral."
Martin St. Louis rejoined the team just one day after her death to play in Game 5 as the Rangers avoided elimination against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
