Jose Abreu of the White Sox on Monday became the second player in baseball history to win his league's overall and rookie player of the month honors in his first month in the majors.
It is the eighth time a rookie has won both awards in the same calendar month.
slugging percentage, tied for seventh with 11 multihit games and 10th in runs scored at 20. Abreu is the fourth White Sox player to win the rookie of the month award.
Nine White Sox players have won a combined 17 AL player of the month honors, including eight by Frank Thomas.
The last White Sox player to lead the league in both categories, regardless of month, was Roy Sievers in July 1960.
