Giants' Cain (cut finger) a late scratch from start

CBS Sports 62+ SHARES •

Matt Cain will have to miss his start Tuesday night.
Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain was scheduled to take the mound Tuesday night against San Diego, but he's instead a late scratch due to cutting his right index finger.
Cain, 29, is 0-3 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 31 innings this season.
As far as Cain's next scheduled start, without knowing the severity of the cut, there's no way to know.
If a pitcher has a cut or blister on the index finger of his pitching hand it will significantly hamper his ability to make quality pitches.
